Put another way, it is a way of measuring of the warmth of a doona - or in this case, baby sleeping bag or swaddle. The smaller the number, the lighter (or cooler) it will be and the higher the number, the warmer it will be. Case Study When I met Oliver he was just 4 months old and had never been swaddled. Someone had told his mum that swaddling would damage him and so she never tried it. He was a healthy 7kg and still exclusively breastfed, thriving in all aspects of his life, except sleep. Oliver was a serial cat napper.  As a newborn, these 45 minute sleeps hadn’t bothered his mum too much as she knew he was not ready to link his sleep cycles together. However, his naps were becoming progressively shorter and sometimes he would sleep for as little as 25-35...

Babies and kids with eczema can be itchier at night than they are during the day. This can be because they are getting too hot in bed, so it's important to choose the right warmth (TOG) rating for the season. During the night, their little bodies also have a lot of contact with their clothes and bedding, so natural fibres (excluding wool) that are soft and breathable are less likely to aggravate itchy skins. All ergoPouch swaddles, sleeping bags and pyjamas are made from skin-friendly materials. We choose soft Bamboo, organic cottons and Merino combined with bamboo, grown without chemicals...
