From womb to world, ergoPouch has everything you need for uncomplicated newborn sleeping.

Commonly referred to as the ‘fourth trimester', your newborn will be sleeping around 16 hours a day in the first few months as their body grows rapidly, brain develops and they learn a circadian rhythm.

All babies are wonderfully different, but it may be that your mini will like to sleep in an environment that mimics the close confines of a womb. Swaddling, and ensuring your baby is in a safe sleep environment will help achieve this. Clever use of TOG-ratings, Layers and Sleep Tools will help you navigate sleep for the first three months. Did we mention we’ve built in lots of handy features with all our products, to make them easy to use in the middle of the night?

Read on for our comprehensive overview of newborn sleeping, our product recommendations, and safe sleep tips.

TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is a unit of measurement for insulation and warmth of sleepwear and bedding. Put simply, the lower the TOG rating, the lighter the fabric; the higher the rating, the more padded and insulated it is. As newborn babies cannot regulate their body temperature, dressing them in a TOG-rated swaddle with the appropriate layers underneath will help keep them warm, without overheating.

Cocoon Swaddle Sack

Suitable from Birth

Our much loved Cocoon Swaddle Sack is a zip-up swaddle that mimics the close confines of the womb environment and manages startle reflex by keeping baby’s arms enclosed. The firm feeling of security can provide comfort and help settle your baby to sleep.

Our Swaddle is TOG-rated for warmth, meaning you do not need additional blankets when using the right weight Cocoon Swaddle Sack for your room temperature. Available in three TOG ratings (0.2 TOG, 1.0 TOG and 2.5 TOG) to ensure comfort throughout the year.

Snap closures in the shoulders of the swaddle allow you to release arms when baby shows signs of rolling (or if you have a baby that doesn’t like being swaddled!), usually around 8 weeks, turning the swaddle into baby’s first sleeping sack.

The two way zip is a lifesaver for easy dressing and even easier overnight diaper changes to get your mini back to sleep, faster.

Made from and filled with GOTS certified and non-toxic certified Organic Cotton for healthier sleeping. The bell-shaped design will allow your little one to splay their legs in a frog-like position during sleep to prevent hip dysplasia.

We suggest you buy one for wash and one for wear in two TOG ratings (i.e. 0.2 TOG and 1.0 TOG in spring/summer and 1.0 TOG and 2.5 TOG in fall/winter) for flexibility. Most parents have told us the 0000 Newborn size is the best fit for their newborn baby. If you’re expecting a larger baby, grab a couple of 0-3 month sizes to have in your stash too.

Wear under your Swaddle for warmth

Our unique Rompers are designed to be worn under your Cocoon Swaddle Sack for additional warmth. Available in two TOG ratings, choose the thicker 1.0 TOG Long Sleeve Romper for a warmer option or the 0.2 TOG Romper in short or long sleeve for a cooler romper underneath.

The unique 3-way zip is helpful for dressing, undressing and diaper changes, and designed to zip behind your baby for comfort of fit, as opposed to down the leg. Made from our signature non-toxic and GOTS certified organic cotton and designed in the most delicious prints, our Rompers are oh-so-soft and cozy we guarantee you’ll want to dress your baby in them all day every day (and why not, it certainly makes life easier!).

Most parents have told us the 0000 Newborn size is the best fit for their newborn baby. If you’re expecting a larger baby, grab a couple of 0-3 month sizes to have in your stash too. We suggest having four Rompers on hand – you may be surprised at how often you have to change your newborn with the number of spit up or diaper leaks!

Sleep Tools for newborns

Add these handy tools to your lineup, to help settle, soothe and sleep longer.

Baby Tuck Sheet

For extra comfort and security

Our new Baby Tuck Sheet is a firm-fitting mattress sleeve designed for newborns and babies who are not rolling. Designed to use over the top of a swaddle or sleeping sack, the Baby Tuck Sheet provides added security and comfort during sleep.

If you have a baby with a strong startle reflex who needs more than just a swaddle, the Baby Tuck Sheet will help provide a more enclosed feeling during sleep.

The Baby Tuck Sheet has been approved as safe by leading Australian infant safety group INPAA, and follows Red Nose guidelines for safe sleep. Available in both a Bassinet and Crib size with zips to adjust for size and firmness, the Baby Tuck Sheet is suitable to use from birth, until your baby shows signs of rolling.

The Baby Tuck Sheet is TOG rated on each side, so you can interchange the desired firmness and warmth level. The TOG ratings will work with your Cocoon Swaddle Sack TOGs to ensure you are not overheating your child by adding another Layer. Every Baby Tuck Sheet comes with a free room thermometer and special edition What to Wear guide to make layering for sleep easy, when using the tuck sheet.

The Butterfly Cardi

To assist with the transition from swaddled to arms out sleeping.

When your swaddled baby begins to show signs of their startle reflex fading (usually around 8 weeks), and signs of rolling, it’s time to get their arms out of a swaddle for safety. The Butterfly Cardi is designed to be worn over the top of your Cocoon Swaddle Sack and used as a transition aid to smoothly transition to arms out sleeping with minimal sleep disruptions.

Window Blockout

For total darkness during sleep

A newborn baby has only ever slept in the dark environment of your womb. When born, they are yet to learn a circadian rhythm (day/night) to their sleep. Research shows we can help newborn babies develop their body clock by exposing them to light and dark environments at the appropriate awake/sleep intervals. Our Window Blockout is the perfect essential for achieving this.

The Window Blockout is a non-toxic, static-cling blind that blocks 100% of sunlight from rooms. Being static-cling, it leaves zero sticky residue on windows and can be reused multiple times. The Window Blockout is white on both sides to seamlessly blend in with your child's space. The room side will block out the light, and the outward-facing side will reflect light away from your windows, which can also help regulate the room's temperature for a more comfortable sleep.

Easy to cut to size, apply and clean. The blind is suitable for single or double-glazed windows; we suggest you measure your windows before buying, to gauge how many rolls will be needed.

Organic, natural sleepwear

for a healthier, safer sleep

Did you know your newborn’s skin is thin, sensitive and porous? This means it's open and susceptible to absorbing elements that can be undesirable. We choose to make all our sleepwear and products with natural fibers; GOTS-certified organic cotton and bamboo with a little bit of elastane for stretch.

Our material is certified non-toxic, and all products are made with high-quality techniques and built-in safety features. Not only does this keep your child safer overnight, but it also benefits our environment for your children’s children.
