Summer is just around the corner! Which means carefree days at the beach, pool-side BBQ’s, ice cream sundaes, and sun tired little ones… We all know that feeling after a full day in the sun - pure happiness and utter exhaustion. For many reasons, the sun can really take it out of you! Here are a few tips to make sure your littles stay cool, comfortable and protected during the summer heat as well as how ergoPouch can help support your sleep during summer.
Many parents often worry that their baby will overheat if they are swaddled in the summer, however most newborns struggle to sleep well if they are not swaddled. It is important to carefully consider all layers you put on your baby when dressing and swaddling for summer sleep. With TOG rated sleepwear, we eliminate the need for blankets in your child’s sleep space.
If you’re new here, you may be wondering what a TOG is. A TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is a unit of measurement for insulation and warmth of sleepwear and bedding.
- 0.2 & 0.3 TOG = 75Fº+
- 1.0 TOG = 70Fº–75Fº
Using a swaddle can help contain sudden movements (commonly known as the startle reflex) and prevent waking. Swaddling can also help soothe and settle babe to sleep by providing a feeling of containment - mimicking their experience in the womb.
We suggest: Cocoon Swaddle Sack 0.2 TOG and Butterfly Cardi (for when the temperature in the room drops overnight) or Long Sleeve 0.2 TOG Pajamas
Pouches and Sleep Sacks replace the need for blankets, which in turn, reduces the risk of blankets covering the face and suffocation. Your baby's sleepwear should also be slim fitting on the body, to avoid the danger of loose fabrics around their face. Make sure your baby's sleepwear is fitted around the neck hole, has child-safe mechanisms (such as zips and snaps) and does not restrict their movement in a way that is dangerous (e.g. a rolling baby's arms should not be contained).
We suggest: Jersey Sleep Sack 0.2 TOG
If your toddler is used to our Sleep Sacks as a comfort or sleep association tool, and is transitioning out of a crib, they are likely to kick off their bedding, and in turn, they may be waking up too cold or even bitten by mosquitos during the night...
We suggest: Short Sleeve Sleep Onesie 1.0 TOG
FOMO may have already started to kick in at this age, and getting your child to bed may become increasingly more challenging. Our Doll sleep sack is designed to be used as a sleep tool to role play and encourage bedtime routines, as well as a cue your mischievous mini-me to settle at bedtime.
We suggest: 2-Piece Pajamas 0.2 TOG and Doll Sleep Sack
